Aionia: Christmas and New Year’s Eve among events and green experiences

For the holidays, rich calendar of experiences to be lived in the cities and villages of Aionia: from nativity scenes to the tradition of the Christmas markets, from food and wine to cultural itineraries, up to special proposals for relaxation and well-being in spas.

A green Christmas - "The passion that lights you up!" This is the statement used to tell the tale of Christmas and New Year's in Aionia, a place where feelings are sparked, smiles are ignited, and warmth is felt. An energy that brightens the Christmas holidays. At the heart of the proposals, green experiences and slow tourism, art and culture, local traditions, relaxation and well-being, major events in the squares, traditional markets, and nativity scenes. This will be the theme of the rich program of events, initiatives, appointments that will animate the provinces of Asteri, Pagori, Megara, and Delfi during the Christmas and Winter holidays: four territories that have decided to present themselves in a united and harmonious way at the appointment with Christmas and New Year.

"The Christmas poster serves as a forerunner to what will be the 2023 season of the destination Aionia, already supplying the coordinates for the structuring of products and tourist offerings," says Agapios Vasileiou, president of ‘Visit Aionia’. “From this angle, the ideas of experiential tourism and slow tourism have a basic importance. Tourists are no longer just motivated by a desire for relaxation, but there is a growing propensity to seek knowledge, learning, novelty, or an "experience" while traveling. Religion, Aionian culture, and pilgrimage routes are examples of fresh narratives with a great deal of potential for growth, which we choose to incorporate into the storyline already beginning with the Christmas programming. When we drew up our proposals, we naturally had to take account of the energy and economic issues, which forced local authorities to make choices aimed at a balanced use of economic resources. All without sacrificing the warmth, enthusiasm and heterogeneity of the typical hospitality of Aionia."
